Cedar Leaf Shawlette
Cedar Leaf Shawlette
Pattern designer Alana Dakos describes this hybrid shawl/scarf as a "crescent shaped little shawl that drapes beautifully around your shoulders and looks absolutely stunning wrapped around your neck as a scarf." I chose a wool/silk/angora blend yarn In arresting shades of New Jade (aka Serpentine, with its yellow-green variations) for this piece, which has a straight 40" top edge with a leafy border attached. The micro-shawl effect is achieved through the combination of stockinette short-rows that gradually widen to 8" in the middle. The wide scalloped "cedar leaf" border adds another 1.5" to its profile. The wool/silk/angora blend yarn results in amazing softness and a stunning "halo" effect to the rich yellows and greens. The border knitted on to the body of this hybrid garment required more than twice as much time to knit as the body itself, but I think the finished product was worth every hour of my time. This "shawlette" is a beautiful way to bring the jades into your winter wardrobe!
