The Weekender Vest
The Weekender Vest
Such a fun pattern from Knitting on the Fringe, this vest was knit sideways with the wide collar added at the end. Flowing front panels extend downward 12.5" from the collar before dropping diagonally in a 35" sharkbite hemline on both sides to 56" across the back. Length in back is 33" from collar joinder to bottom edge, width 15" between armholes in back. The 4" shawl collar extends 34" around the neck, creating the look of lapels in front. Armholes are a generous 22" in circumference, making it possible to layer this piece over a thicker sweater or hoodie. The asymmetrical sides provide visual interest an-d flowing movement, particularly with the yarns I chose for this project. Knitting with two strands of Berroco yarn - Millefiori Light (50% wool/50% acrylic) in Hyacinth, paired with Aerial (65% superkid mohair/35% silk blend) in Smoke - resulted in an incredibly soft, richly textured garment in periwinkle tones of lavender, sky blue, sea green, and deep purple. The mohair/silk fiber creates flattering movement and a soft, slightly fuzzy profile augmenting the warmth and shape provided by the wool/acrylic blend. Gorgeous colors, soft fibers, and an intriguing shape make this sweater vest one of the most versatile garments in your wardrobe.
