Chameleon V-Neck Pullover Sweater
Chameleon V-Neck Pullover Sweater
The Klaralund pullover from Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton was the very first sweater I actually finished, with a lot of help and one unforeseen outcome. When I bought the Malabrigo Rios yarn for this project, I chose a color called Camaleon (Chameleon) that looked like a cool tie-dyed colorway in the green family. What I did not know until I actually knitted each part of the sweater was that all the skeins were distant relatives of my chosen color family, some more distant than others - so the front, back, and each sleeve ended up being different colors. I must admit that I was crushed when I realized this fact, and might have taken apart the completed sections to start again (this time, alternating the skeins within each piece), had I not been so determined to just finish something for once. The final product is whimsical with its variations on a (color) theme, full of vibrant texture and visual interest. I seamed one of the necklines 2" up from the empire waist to provide a choice of necklines - a deep 9" V-neck on one side and a more modest 7" V-neck on the other (because of course, with its color variations, this sweater is eminently reversible). Those "v" necklines are actually formed by the wide tops of the sleeves meeting in front and back at an empire-waist seam 40" in circumference. The length of the V from front seam to back seam is about 16" over the shoulder, with the sleeves extending about 35" from shoulder to cuffs that are about 18" in circumference. The length of the sweater body from empire-waist seam to lower edge is about 15" (on mannequin), making the total length of the garment from shoulder to hem about 25" (bust size will obviously impact vertical length). This washable wool pullover in vibrant colors has just the right amount of stretchy drape and "halo" effect of soft fuzziness to make it your favorite sweater - bonus: it will go with everything, thanks to its chameleon colorways.
