Triumph Tulip Pullover Sweater
Triumph Tulip Pullover Sweater
More yarn from the summer of 2020, this time from a local artisan selling her yarn at the Farmers Market in Coos Bay, Oregon. She had two skeins from one dye lot left in this incredible colorway (named for a yellow and orange tulip variety, she said), so I bought them both and paired them in one pullover sweater. The smooth wool was easy to work with, the slub not so much. I found it as challenging to knit with as the yarn made from recycled saris because of the unpredictable thickness, compounded by the 3-dimensionality of slub "tags." The arresting color combination here, though, was worth the extra effort. I followed the instructions for a medium sweater with body panels 24" long and 20" wide. The mock turtleneck collar is 22" circumference at joinder to body and 20" circumference at top edge. The 28" long sleeves attach to the body 9" from the collar, with 3" ribbing at the cuffs. The garter-stitch bottom border is 54" in circumference. It is the nature of this yarn and this pattern to stretch a bit with gravity, making it a sweater that only gets more comfortable as you wear it. A visual feast of saturated color and vibrant texture, this sweater will rightly be the center of attention whenever it makes an appearance.
